Lucy Engelman is an illustrator raised in the Midwest living in Pittsburgh, PA. Her work has appeared in editorials, books, and often beyond the printed page through collaborations with chefs and farmers, designing apparel, home goods, and filling rooms with custom wallpapers.
She has been a guest lecturer at Other Studio, Columbia College, Kendall College, Carnegie Museum of Art and Creative Mornings Grand Rapids, MI. She has served on the jury for the Society of Publication Designer Awards and Rabbit Island Artist Residency. She has been on a team awarded an SPD medal and has been chosen as an Artist in Residence for the Rabbit Island Residency (Michigan), Cabin Time (Minnesota), and the American Prairie Reserve (Montana).
She started a professional illustration group called The Illustration League with illustrator/designer Michael Nykamp in 2014.
She has contributed illustrations to over twenty published titles with Chronicle Books, Storey Publishing, Hachette Book Group, Penguin Books, Princeton Press, University of Chicago Press, Artisan Books, Gestalten (GR) and more. Her own title was published by Frances Lincoln in more than 10 languages for international distribution.
Lucy has been told she is very passionate about what she does, a trait she labels as being an illustration nerd. She relishes any opportunity to speak about being an illustrator with colleagues and sharing her experiences to emerging talent.
